CGG partnered with the Chicago Tribune to donate a tree for every new online subscription over the course of a month–and these trees have now been donated to Chicago schools! The trees were hand delivered to Beulah Shoesmith Elementary School, CCA Academy, and the Academy for Global Citizenship, among others.
At the Academy for Global Citizenship, students will be using the seedlings as part of an action piece to finish off the Tremendous Trees unit! They will have the students practice writing and sequencing by writing directions for how to plant and care for trees. In addition to this, students will write a persuasive letter as to why it is important to plant, care for, and share knowledge about trees.
We can use the Tribune’s donation to these schools as an example of how important and educational supporting Chicago’s urban forest can be. With our upcoming event Gaming for Green–which supports our Tree Partnership Program–in mind, contributing to Chicago’s tree population is an easy way to make a huge impact on our city, even with just a small donation, newspaper subscription, or ticket purchase.
