Chicago Gateway Green: Why did you decide to get involved with Gateway Green?
Mark Finger: For years I’ve appreciated the efforts of CGG to improve the appearance of one of our most visible public spaces – the expressway embankments – and boost civic pride in the process. I felt my design and horticultural background would come in useful. I am also borderline obsessive-compulsive and so order and cleanliness are right up my alley!
CGG: What is your favorite thing about Chicago?
MF: My favorite things about Chicago would include the quality of its 19th and early 20th century buildings; the vast array of cultural and events, entertainments, and activities; its history of natural area conservation; and the diverse civic organizations founded to address social needs. Not least, it’s a great city for foodies.
CGG: Tell us a random fun fact about yourself.
MF: A random or funny fact about myself: there are none – all my facts are highly organized and serious.
CGG: What is your favorite movie, book, or band?
MF: I don’t have a favorite movie, book or band, but my favorite kinds of movies would feature Agatha Christie’s characters, or Charlie Chan; my preferred books focus on history, sociology, economics, and religion; and for music, I prefer world music, “traditional” or ethnic music, Mozart, and most of what WKQX offers.
