This Friday, in honor of Arbor Day, Chicago Gateway Green and United Airlines are teaming up to plant some trees together. 20-30 United Airline volunteers alongside Gateway will work together on United’s “Day of Impact” to perpetuate Gateway’s Tree Partnership Program. We will be planting approximately 15-20 trees and picking up litter in Pasteur Park at 1825 W. Harrison in the Illinois Medical District. The guest list doesn’t only feature United and Gateway employees though. To show their support, in attendance will be 5th District State Senator Van Pelt, Alderman Fioretti, and Director of Real Estate Management Division of Cook County Bureau of Economic Development, Anna Ashcraft. See what the leaders at United and Gateway have to say about the upcoming planting:
“Greening and cleaning our communities has such a positive impact on the quality of life for people in our region, and projects like this simply wouldn’t be possible without our strong partnership with the city/state, great partners like United Airlines, and the community at large.” said Chicago Gateway Green Executive Director, Heather Korpella. “As countless people celebrate Arbor Day across our country, it’s exciting to see so many people rolling up their sleeves to plant trees and beautify our neighborhoods in Chicago.”
United Airlines will sponsor the Illinois Medical District beautification project. “As Chicago’s hometown airline, we are proud to be a part of today’s Arbor Day event,” said Jimmy Samartzis, Global Managing Director of United’s Environmental Affairs Group. “Our co-workers are the heart of our company and they do things every day to make a difference and help shape a more sustainable future for our company, our customers and the communities we serve.”
