Paper, Plastic, Aluminum, Cell phones… We recycle other used materials in our daily lives, so why not recycle that old cell phone you haven’t touched in months? Verizon Wireless is working to promote electronic recycling with an incentive program which can earn you gift cards in exchange for the phone you’re no longer using!
This program is aimed towards conserving our natural resources and protecting our air and water from pollution caused by manufacturing materials used to make our electronics. Our electronics are made from highly scarce and valuable materials including metals, plastics, and glass, all of which require energy to mine and manufacture. According to the EPA, for every million cell phones we recycle, 35,000 pounds of copper, 772 pounds of silver, 75 pounds of gold, and 33 pounds of palladium can be recovered. So far, Verizon has done their part by collecting over a million pounds of e-waste at recycling rallies. Way to go, Verizon!
