Chicago Gateway Green: Why did you decide to get involved with Gateway Green?
Austin Hassett: I moved here to go to school in 2001 and instantly fell in love with the city. I love how much emphasis has been put on greening and beautifying Chicago since I have been here and wanted to contribute to the process in my own unique way!
CGG: What is your favorite thing about Chicago?
AH: Lately it has been running on the lake. My favorite route is coming up Burnham Harbor, passing Soldier Field and then circling the outside of the Planetarium and Aquarium. Breathtaking, epic views the entire run! I also recently took up tennis and can be found most evenings on the courts at Grant Park.
CGG: Tell us a random fun/funny fact about yourself
AH: I was a guest on the Sally Jesse Raphael show. Luckily this was before everything instantly ended up on the internet so there is only one VHS copy buried at my Mom’s house!
CGG: What is your favorite movie, book, or band?
AH: I’ve been a fiction nut lately and have been rapidly consuming books on my commute on the Blue Line. Some recent faves include Haruki Murakami’s “IQ84” and Jonathan Franzen’s “Freedom”. Recently, I have been on a Science Fiction kick and am currently reading Arthur C. Clarke’s “Childhood’s End”. Terrifyingly prophetic!
