Food Day is here! October 24th is the day the whole country has the opportunity to celebrate this campaign for healthier eating and more sustainable choices in our diets. Food Day wants to help Americans to start “eating real” by buying sustainable food that has not been chemically altered. On that note, another organization with similar values is being featured at a Food Day event here in Chicago tomorrow night.
Based in Chicago, the Food Animal Concerns Trust is an organization which has made a serious impact on the farming and food industry. The organization fights current issues including: over use of antibiotics in animal feed, false labeling of “natural” products and cloning risks when producing natural products across the country. F.A.C.T conducts scientific research to combat the issues of meat safety along with support from the FDA and the US Department of Agriculture.
In 2012, they were able to organize a $13,000 grant to be distributed to 9 farms across the country. These grants provide farms with new opportunities to raise the animals in the most humane ways possible and strengthen the communication efforts more sustainable animal and dairy products. The organization has changed the way farms build the pastures for the animals and worked to create the best conditions possible.
