The winter season is such a wonderful time to take advantage of all that our city has to offer. Even with the plunging temperatures, Chicagoans can make the most of our urban environment by visiting one of the most celebrated parks in the city.
The city is now bustling with holiday festivities and we want to feature a way that you can go out and enjoy Chicago’s natural beauty. For over ten years, Millennium Park has created the McCormick Tribune Ice Skating Rink. This 200 by 80 foot arena is now open to the public as a great winter activity. Skate rental is available on site for $10.00 and access to the rink is free. The rink draws more than 100,000 visitors each year. Avoid the classic wipe-out by learning to skate on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays one hour before the rink opens with free lessons. The rink will be open this year until March 9, 2014, weather permitting.
Other park elements worth scoping out are The Lurie Garden and Cloud Gate or “The Bean.” These are two excellent examples of how the park brings the community together through outdoor sculptures and gardens. We hope you bundle up and enjoy this city winter wonderland.
