Eye-candy colors and springtime perfumes strut their stuff in more than 25 stylized gardens as “Evening in Bloom” provides an exclusive first look at “Hort Couture,” the theme for the Chicago Flower & Garden Show, on Friday, March 9 at Navy Pier.
Chicago’s springtime coming out party is expected to draw an A-list crowd of attendees before the show opens to the public on Saturday. The evening’s proceeds benefit Chicago Gateway Green and Friends of the Parks, two Chicago-area non-profit organizations dedicated to environmental beautification and preservation. In keeping with the theme, which reflects the influence of fashion and design in floral, plant and landscape creations, models will stroll the show wearing new creations by local young designers from the Chicago Fashion Incubator. Cast members from the NBC daytime drama “Days of Our Lives,” which has a feature garden in the show, will greet and mingle with guests as they sample fine wines and delectable hors d’oeuvres from Harry Caray’s, Dirk’s Fish and Gourmet Shop, Cyrano’s Bistrot Wine Bar & Cabaret, Wildfire, O’Donovan’s Pub & Restaurant, 94 West Steak & Seafood Restaurant, Union Sushi + Barbeque Bar and W Chicago – City Center. The Chicago Retail Bakers Association will provide sweet treats.
Inspiring vignettes throughout the Chicago Flower & Garden Show, from March 10-18, will present ideas for gardens large and small, while presentations, demonstrations and hands-on activities offer how-to takeaways. Highlights are the Horton family garden, featuring actual props from the “Days of Our Lives” set; a White House vegetable garden, to inspire green thumbs of all ages; and – never before seen at the show – a lifestyle rooftop garden will make us long for summer days up ahead.
Co-chairs for “Evening in Bloom” are Lee Golub, principal and executive vice president, Golub & Company, and his wife, Sandy. Tickets are $125 each and may be purchased online at www.ChicagoFlower.com.
